2012

for the record (again): no, the world will not end on the december solstice of 2012. such 'cosmophobic' predictions are being spurred on by the release of the movie, 2012, this autumn.

of course there are many reasons to worry about the future of our planet, but there is absolutely nothing special or significant about december 21st, 2012, other than the north pole of earth with be at its greatest tilt away from the sun! but that happens every year... nothing new!

there is no planet x or nibiru.

the ending of the mayan calendar in 2012 somehow initiating an apocalypse is complete nonsense.

Once upon a time, there was a Mayan calendar maker. After spending many months carving his calendar into stone, he looked at his star charts, noticed the planetary alignment, and figured it was a good place to stop.

As he wiped the sweat from his brow and set down his primitive tools, a young Mayan boy came up to him.

"What's that?" the boy asked.

"It's a calendar", said the calendar maker. "It will allow us to track the passage of time for thousands of years."

"But what will we do when it runs out?" asked the boy.

The calendar maker smiled. "That won't happen for thousands of years. Plenty of time to make a new calendar."

"But what if our civilization is conquered by explorers from overseas before we've had a chance to make a new calendar?" the boy asked. "What if future archaeologists find this calendar? Won't people notice that it ends rather abruptly, at a rather convenient planetary alignment? Will people think that means that the world's going to end, and that somehow we predicted it?"

The calendar maker laughed. "Oh, you kids and your wild imagination!"

Google has 1,340,000 results for "2012 apocalypse", almost the 1,490,000 results for "Obama savior". How can it not be true?

12/12/12 will, however, mark the culmination of World Hoop Day by which date every child will have a hoop! :)

I hope the alleged impending apocalypse will mark the end of the current greedy consumption of earth and exploitation of people, and we will become a more appreciative, conscientious, creative, service oriented people.
